Meanings

We fret over words, our minds second guess
Words from the heart are random at best
Let's not waste any time analyzing things
Don't worry about words, I know what you mean

Things spoken in fear can't be too precise
Don't worry a bit about playing nice
Express all you feel whatever life brings
Don't worry about words, I know what you mean

Your feelings inside always tell me the truth
Your emotions won't lie, you don't need an excuse
I'll do anything to keep your soul free
Don't worry about words, I know what you mean

Storm and Calm

Despite the swirling winds of time
All the the lows and all the highs
Grasping for a peace out there
If the mind's too tired to care
Through all the settled dust
When concerns refrain from fuss
The blurry lens in focus now
Your face appears removing doubts

With my eyes raise to the heights
The aura of the northern lights
Swim below a lake that's clear
With courage now amid the fears
A storm rolls in, we're filled with awe
A voice within a shelter calls
It feels the same as flashes blind
When thoughts of you pass through my mind

What we Think

Sometimes we think love
Is like a dinner plate
You can walk away from
Or a deal you missed
Like passing a yard sale
But it doesn't follow
Commerce rules
It's not like a faucet
You can turn off
A switch to flick
To turn on the lights
A pedal to push
To speed up
Or slow down
It does what is right
For its beloved
Is not a user
Love cares deeply
Will not impose itself
Is patient and kind
Will step out of the way
For a person's happiness
At its own hearts expense
Love also doesn't change
Will sacrifice for loved ones
Would rather be destitute
Than hurt its beloved
No it isn't a task
An accomplishment
If it has to be won
Then it's a card game
But it can't be love
Maybe I am a purist
To my own detriment
There isn't a map
But this is all I know

Books

As a small child I was introduced
To an endless  world found in pages
A crisp new book crackle
The smell of ink
A cover to smack the table
Or your neighbor
The paper smelled of old and some new
But then I was introduced to heaven
The library with its majestic rows
A reverence fills the air
Mixing with the smell of books
Rows and rows of bindings show
Each book contains a world so fair
Adventure, politics, mystery, romance
Geography, self help
And oh yes, Dr Seuss
Each one has a nestled home
Hiding in place except for those
Skilled with the use of small oak drawers
We encoders know
The secret to the cards
And we all with due respect
Quietly find the book we like
Meeting eye to eye to book
With people of like interest
But of course we just smile
This ocean of words
Has tributaries into homes
You can check them out
If you perhaps have acquired
A passport called a library card
These oracles are sacred
So there are penalties
To those who linger with them too long
One can make a library
With little shelves of their own
And enjoy the new page smell
Crunched in a cover
But keep them forever
They become a part of you
The pages fan to find your part
A small breeze to get you there
Bindings worn from squeezing thumbs
They have a part of your life to tell
By the pool or close by in bed
Well liked books have covers worn
And pages torn
But they still beat an electronic glow.

Awakened

I should get out from under the covers
The sun is shining
Dreams unfinished, my eyes flutter

The moon snuck in and whispered
To closed eyes
And he doesn't like to be disturbed

The sun bursts in with a million things
Crescendoed by
The birds accompanying as they sing

Maybe what I am dreaming can happen
I smile
Sometimes being awake is such a distraction.

And yet ideas are carried on the sun's rays
New sights
Morning by morning is how the future is made

A Promise

He bought her flowers
She'd made a promise
He loves the way she always keeps her word

He wouldn't change her
That's why she loves him
He put the flowers on his table and thought of her.

Their love is still haunting the rooms of their souls
Looking for ways to occupy it's time
Remembering and wishing for a whisper
Knowing they're still intertwined.

He won't forget her
He made a promise
She loves the way he always keeps his word

A note to readers

I'm spending a little more time perfecting poems despite my busy schedule. They are like children produced from feelings. (almost three hundred) Often they need correction and perfection. Sometimes I just visit them. I have people requesting a book. About half are in a book formatted to publish but it all takes time. I am up to the challenge and am working on choosing what ones to put in a final draft. Input helps. Some of these are songs and I have purchased equipment to record. I want to get the gist captured myself before getting help. Anyone who has done this in the past knows how the inspiration can unintentionally be lost or diluted by others. Technology allows us grace and means to experiment with what is our heart. Hope your day is going well and don't worry, absence of new stuff means I am working with the kids in other ways. :) The best is yet to come!

The Boy

He saw her picture the other day
He miss that smile
So many words left to say
It shook him to his soul
Go back and shake that boy!
And remove the fear
You won't lose her, don't be coy
Get into the car

Life turns out well anyways
Except the missing part
Thoughts want too much pay
The heart gives no price
Searching for a solution
Focus home
Minimize the confusion
Help the boy

But he's a man

The Lowlands and the Heights

There's an animal within us
Who has its wants and desires
It wants to raise a happy family
Important things to acquire

We must stand behind the plow
And push it through the mire
Security is the dream
Time is sold as to a buyer

Toil away in the bottomland
Hoping for a little rest
Run away for a while
Return when you're unstressed

There's a delight above it all
Higher heights that can be reached
Inspiration makes its home there
Things that man can never teach

Hold on tight to those who help you
Reach a place your heart can soar
Release the muse dwelling in you
Help your spirit to explore

We dare not fear the soaring heights
A flower yearns to reach the sun
Wanting to display its beauty
With roots in earth where life begun.
