Inside this Dreaming Mind

Inside this dreaming mind,

I want to enjoy your smile when I open the door for you
And present us to the public
To be the one you roll your eyes at because of corny compliments.
To reassure your faith in people.
To know the best way to hold your hand.
To use this skill through joy and sadness.
I want to argue with you over a movie.
To endure your favorites while you endure mine.
To exchange smiles and roll up our sleeves to do the impossible.
To share that instant recognition and joy when we see each other across a crowded room.
To share a blanket on chill nights and look at the stars.
To be the person you reach for in your sleep.
I want your voice to be sweet music in the background of my life.
To humor each other and redeem each other's jokes when they fall short.
To hear you complain about something I do with a wry smile.
To master paying attention when I'm not really interested.
To be your guy sitting on the bench outside the store.
To be the one who completely agrees with you when I don't have a clue

When I think of you, this is what resides
Inside this dreaming mind

Enough

How do you say I'm sorry
for a thunderstorm
How do you apologize
For a wildfire

We are loyal
and good
We do what we should

How do you take away
the hurt caused
How do you make up
for lost time

We are spoiled
and loved
I hope that's enough

Words in Chains

I spoke honest words
with boldness
and effect
Euphoria of the soul
and release
But my world unraveled
into silence
I must hide the words
Keep the thoughts
Bind them in chains
Betray my heart
And call it good
