Milestones

On the right near the road
It was hidden from view
The world hurried by
And nobody knew

A milestone was there
Forgotten by time
Somebody’s memory
Is now marking mine

Memory’s bonds
Are stronger than stone
While bodies move on
Our minds build a home

Eyes that are windows
Smiles we have shared
The world is oblivious
While our hearts are aware

Time gives us beauty
It converts gangly youth
We hate letting go
There has to be proof

Moments we mark
In our hearts set in stone
Along the path as we pause
Though our journey has grown

What I am not

I have nothing to say
But I want to be heard
I have nothing to give
But I need to be loved
I am nothing to view
But I wish to be admired
Yet you love me
For what I don't have
And it is profound
