Tousled

I stood behind you on the balcony
and looked at the mountains
through your wind swept hair
The view was beautiful

We walked on the beach
The wind tossed your hair
Like the waves on the sea
The world became ours

The light through the trees
Play on the loose strand of hair
That fell over your eye
And you are lovely

You certainly look elegant
With your hair done up
It weakens my knees
My heart is proud

As you rest on a pillow
I lose every care in the world
Through your tousled hair
Life becomes good

When Two Find Us

I laughed at absurdities
While we were strangers
You smiled knowingly

When I hear your voice
It is a familiar song
How do we know each other?

Within our hearts we know
Two are actually one

Our eyes search the room
Stirring our souls when they meet
What is the source of knowing?

Is it endowed by God?
Are we adrift in an ocean
And meet by chance?
Is this an ancient gift
From another life?
It is rare and precious
What does it require?

It stirs a yearning inside
Beyond circumstances
Outside of time
This open door
Connects our souls
And two find us

Inside this Dreaming Mind

Inside this dreaming mind,

I want to enjoy your smile when I open the door for you
And present us to the public
To be the one you roll your eyes at because of corny compliments.
To reassure your faith in people.
To know the best way to hold your hand.
To use this skill through joy and sadness.
I want to argue with you over a movie.
To endure your favorites while you endure mine.
To exchange smiles and roll up our sleeves to do the impossible.
To share that instant recognition and joy when we see each other across a crowded room.
To share a blanket on chill nights and look at the stars.
To be the person you reach for in your sleep.
I want your voice to be sweet music in the background of my life.
To humor each other and redeem each other's jokes when they fall short.
To hear you complain about something I do with a wry smile.
To master paying attention when I'm not really interested.
To be your guy sitting on the bench outside the store.
To be the one who completely agrees with you when I don't have a clue

When I think of you, this is what resides
Inside this dreaming mind

Enough

How do you say I'm sorry
for a thunderstorm
How do you apologize
For a wildfire

We are loyal
and good
We do what we should

How do you take away
the hurt caused
How do you make up
for lost time

We are spoiled
and loved
I hope that's enough

Words in Chains

I spoke honest words
with boldness
and effect
Euphoria of the soul
and release
But my world unraveled
into silence
I must hide the words
Keep the thoughts
Bind them in chains
Betray my heart
And call it good

Reaching

Some say we think too much
Make our own reality
Yet reason is a slave
Passion makes us free.

What we purchase makes demands
Turns our wanting into musts
We are exhausted in the end
Was it worth the fuss?

Never should one squander
We use the word succeed
Reaching all our lives
Wanting worthwhile deeds

What is found in dreams
Always sees the best
Will have a perfect end
Put everything to rest

It is things that disappoint
And they will see decay
What is real dwells in hearts
It cannot fade away

Thought

What do we have but spirit
We cannot see but feel
Your voice is near, I hear it
Can a heart really heal?

Inside the feelings are clear
But the world is changing
If healing brings change, I fear
Uncertainty will claim me

Are these mere thoughts?
Life is has no meaning
Unless they are caught
Hearts absorb feelings

We are contemplation
There is no reason to let go
Things should be rationed
We never leave what we know
