Goals

Rather than writing similar poems, lately I have been organizing and categorizing what is here. There are also numerous drafts on this site that I will either run with or delete. My goal is something good that can be printed in both digital and book form. Thanks for the inspiration... I feel that writing is something I have neglected for years, but putting it all together is an arduous task... My favorite kind..

Civilized

Hello civilization
I thought I'd lost you
For the thrill of the wild

You aren't too exciting
With your planning, executing
Organizing and other ings

Out in the wild
We find a wrestling match
Of desire and fear

It draws spectators
Criticizers and sympatizers
Tale bearers and many other ers

We treasure Honesty
Loyalty and integrity
But the tees look different in the wild.

Nature is exhilarating
But I have to put on street cloths
Shower and shave

Go back to civilization
Presentations, calculations
and the rest of the ations.

Reality

Whenever it is quiet
There's a voice that says
What the hell are you doing?
As though something is missing.

Is a working life
all there is?
Are ideas
all that are real?

When I am quiet, the voice
of motivation calls
When I am busy, the voice
of leisure calls
When I am loyal, the voice
of longing calls
When I am free, the voice
of honor calls

But they never answer

Tumbling Thoughts

Consider our thoughts
they feel profound
don't make a sound

Most tumble away
into a gorge between
born but unseen

Cascading from a well
every second they fall
off the canyon walls

We feel them
the echos are heard
they try to form words

like ocean waves
crashing on rocks
our thoughts never stop

Fallen

I fell in love with love
She fell in love with me
She loved me as a child
When I was climbing trees
We dreamed about our lives
Its possibilities

I left her sitting there
To make my fortune known
She painted earth and sky
So I could find our home
While forging in the mill
Through the glass I felt alone

I submitted to a smile
That claimed to fill my need
He offered me the world
I was tempted by his greed
As the clock made its rounds
I gained anxiety

Love found me once again
She put my mind at ease
I saw her in a sunset
We met beneath the trees
Our dreams were sitting there
Waiting patiently

The Unwritten Poem

Ideas stir in my head
Especially in the quiet
Details speak to me
Thoughts must be perfected

Who cares what I think?
They love the trivial ones
No one wants to get too deep
My deep thoughts are orphans

Thoughts ride between stanzas
Perfectionism is comfortable
Should I hide in the technical?
Forget muses, rhymes and dreams?
Time makes it's demands
Can one live two lives well?
If we had eternity
Who would care?

Yet to be alive
We must have time
Call it a prison
Or call it a blessing

I will forgo the critics
Especially the one inside my head
I must redeem precious time
To write, sing and dream.
