Quiet Morning

In the sleepy haze of early morning
Before the day imposes on my thoughts
Sunbeams and my dreams conspire  together.
Memories return of things I've sought

In the stillness, I begin to hear her voice
Her spoken words resounding like a song
The chorus of her laughter makes me  happy
And it's happiness we worked for all along

So I raise my cup to all who know the answers
My best will be the best that I can do
And navigate my way through all these feelings
Until I bid this quiet morning, adieu

Spirit Eyes

A mind might fear that things die
Since it only knows substance
A heart can see far more
Since it has spirit eyes

A heart knows it is impossible
To let go of another soul
Although absence hurts
Knowledge is delightful

There remains a delight when souls love
That cannot be dissolved
Tears won't wash it away
Nor can time, distance or dust

The Perfectionist

It had to be perfect
The right timing
No way could it go south
Everything right
Each hair in place
Eloquent words
He couldn't bear to lose her
By making a mistake
And missing the opportunity
Of a lifetime
But he panicked
and said nothing
While she went
on her way.

Lightning

It hit them like lightning the first time they met
They beheld in their eyes a destiny set
The power of that look has never been lost
They knew it for sure, each time their paths crossed

If you look at what happened, life wasn't fair
But they have a love the world cannot bear
Though misunderstandings and passions abound
If you look in their hearts, the truth can be found

There are some things this world can't contain
We try to express, our efforts are vain
But that doesn't change what happens inside
Our bodies get old but our souls never die.

Possibilities

There is a man inside of me
Stuck on possibilities
I reassure him life won't pass
We're heading down the perfect path
He doesn't listen very well
Has a place he wants to dwell
Doing right should be enough
But then he cries about handcuffs
Soon my heart begins to follow
Before long my throat will swallow
By then I make them all behave
They really hate to be enslaved
A busy schedule will distract
And keep them off my back

Essence

Do you love the blue sky,
So do I
Do you love someone?
Me too
Whatever fulfills your heart
I want
What makes you feel whole
I'll give
My own ambitions abandoned
For you
The sum of my motives
Your joy
When you contemplate
Remember
The true essence of love.

Above All

There is a conversation
That is above all that exists
It transcends silence
The way life does
It holds

Beyond all sensation
It cannot be satisfied as a need
But the intensity stays
Despite all else
It hopes

There is no condemnation
No record of bad judgment
Existence is delight
Lives to care
It smiles

Thoughts and words
Have more weight than gold
Dancing among them
Heartfelt lyrics
It hears

Images

Is that a star I see?
or the lively sparkle
In your eyes?

Is that a flower in bloom?
or the lovely curves
in your smile?

All the good in this world
Bring to me images
of you.

Persistence

Click and ping
My mind is turning
To figure things out
Who says it's impossible?

Spin and whirl
Reason unfurls
Just when I am close
Solutions elude me

Stomp and curse
But make it worse
Adrenaline rush
This heart is pounding

Smile and sigh
A persistent guy
You know I don't quit
Nothing defeats me

The Hidden Path

The Through familiar fields I walked
Staying where I ought
Flowers all in bloom
An intoxicating swoon

A path caught my eye
A place I hadn't tried
Enticing yet unknown
Til then I hadn't roamed

It wouldn't leave my mind
What lies beyond the pines?
My world became too small
So I had to risk it all

I soon became so lost
A friend, our paths did cross
We had both strayed from our fields
Became each other's shield

We helped each other home
The path now overgrown
Our fields are pleasant still
But we can't forget the thrill.

Though briars and thistles guard
Staying away is hard
As the path becomes obscure
We hope someone appears

Ambiance

Alive through accusations
Wished dead by some
Rose again despite it all
Though time demanded
A memory of silence

But love lives still
Endures abandonment
Growing on hardened paths
Despite travelers
With utter defiance

Duties are for the world
Love makes no demands
Beauty should be admired
Beyond the sunlight
Embracing a soul's ambiance

Enshrined

Thoughts will dwell within this busy head
New words just roll around in there unsaid
Some want to pass my tongue, but they are barred
Yet some will still escape and pass the guard

Once out into the air they're moving fast
I fear what they will do outside my grasp
At times the loss can be a pure relief
I'm sure some of these words will give me grief

New thoughts, my mind will make a hundred more.
They wait in line to find an open door
Some words will hit my gut and cause a bile
Sweet thoughts touch my heart and make me smile

They get out of control I must admit
My head will start to spin, it has a fit
I try to let them out then wait and see
They seek someone who wants a part of me.

If you will take my thoughts and hold them dear
The joy is more than worth a thousand fears
So I invite your thoughts into my heart
And we'll build a shrine to each remark

If

If I could
I'd hold your hand
To help you feel
Someone who cares

If we could
We'd talk it over
Convince our hearts
Someone is there

If love could
It'd show the world
Fill it with awe
Reveal a joy

If God could
He'd fix it all
And every if
Would be destroyed

Night

A soothing voice awakened me
From a dream filled sleep
I heard a rustling in the trees
A midnight bid to keep

The moon sure looked surprised
As he peeked around a cloud
Cool air caressed my neck
A mist rose from the ground

There's a certain beauty found
In the moonlit dark and greys
Without the shining sun
There's nothing to betray

I've been this way before
We've a long eventful past
A deep Infatuation
As the thrilling shadow's cast.

She shares in all my dreams
It's what the night does best
My heart gives her ideas
While my mind remains at rest

As the world lays down in slumber
My senses are renewed
Goodnight, my dear friend
Till day obstructs the view.

The Birth of a Poem

It starts with a passion that can't be explained
Turns into a yearning that won't go away
Feelings inside that need to be heard
Soon my head is swimming with words
They must be expressed or I may drown
No matter how rough I still write them down
The longer I wait, a darkness creeps in
A grief as though I'm committing a sin
They must be displayed, given a home
To dwell in a heart whenever they're shown
euphoria comes when I get it all out
What needed said is no longer in doubt.
Impacting the world straight through my love
I visit to dote and enjoy the shared rush
Then put them to bed and make sure they are alright.
Till another passion ignites

This Is

This is the poem that says it all
The one I wouldn't publish
Thoughts I would express

This is the letter with all the words
The feelings I hold back
Things I could address

This is the song with notes to tell
Passions I keep inside
Dreams I could express

This is the store within my heart
Containing all I am
Opened at your request

It's Just There

Love is a gift for someone in need
It's a strong tower for those who will flee
It may be a flower to soften a tryst
Turn into actions according to lists

Love is foolish to those who withdraw
A soothing answer to a desperate call
It may be a crutch for the cripple to lean
Turn into hope for those who will dream

Love is a pursuit from anxiety
It is cute, superficially
It may be a burden when in want
Turn into a prize for those who flaunt

Love is a reaction from nature
It is a hormone mixture
It may cause memories to lapse
Become an addiction like crack

Love is defined in so many ways
Every feeling we wish to stay
We try to describe it with words
But all our attempts are absurd

What keeps a person fixed in a mind?
Can it be nurtured, does it decline?
This strong connection that two souls share
Cannot be ascribed, it's just... there.

Learning

Give a crushing blow to his face
They yelled to me
He deserves the pain
But I couldn't convince my heart

Shoot the deer as it pranced in its place
He whispered to me
He's in the food chain
But I couldn't convince my heart

Forget her, let her memory be erased
They demanded of me
Her love will not remain
But I couldn't convince my heart

Time works its good, youth is replaced
None can mislead me
I take on all the blame
And I have learned to trust my heart

Wrappings

We package our feelings as gifts wrapped in words
And send them in hope that our passions are heard
We hope they are treasured and held to a chest
Reach into a soul that's in fear and give rest
Oh that my feelings were welcomed, held dear
Let my thoughts give to a heart, joyful tears
There is so much inside to be shared and made glad
Love to make known and moments to be had
So I wrap how I feel in words for a start
To just give a portion of what's in my heart

Descriptive

We use oceans, stars and the moon
Impossible dreams that come true
Wildfires hearts and souls
Eternity, a slow breeze blows
Sands of a warm summer beach
All we enjoy within reach
Thoughts carry into the night
Mornings, an awesome delight
As love becomes fully known
We try to describe it in poems

Above Every Peak

Why do they call it falling in love
When it takes us so high
We can't see ground but the sky

Soaring in love would be the right words
We rise above every peak
To the clouds where we meet

Too soon we need to touch ground again
How we feel doesn't change
There are just hills in the way

Hometown

As we visit our hometown, so much has changed
Farmers and factories have all moved away
The classics are rusted, most of them gone
The road that we cruised doesn't seem very long

The mayor of this town was once a friend's child
A short time ago, cops labeled him wild
The kid down the street has kids of her own
The rich part of town is now simple old homes

The bridge we once dove from is just a guard rail
Few can remember our too many fails
Though we see lots of things that time took away
There are still many things left to do and to say

We can walk through the park past the old mill
And stroll through the field, hold hands on the hill
Watch the sunset together, there's still a good view
Time cannot change how I feel about you

When Foundations Shake

When you think of me in that quiet place
Always remember
This wry smile looking in admiration
Let  thoughts of me put a smile on your face

I am right here cheering you on
In everything you do
As you use that wonderful zeal
That gives us our common bond

Although it is hard to understand
When foundations shake
One thing holds true through uncertainty
I will always be your greatest fan

The Source

It's easy to see with poems and songs
Expressions of love for someone we long
But if we look a bit closer at all that is done
Everything comes from love.

A blue collar worker enduring the cold
White collars watch while money unfolds
From sticks to a house with a builders care
For every goal a lover is there

This old world is a incubator
It exists to satisfy love

Every nation is built and refined
With a lover in the back of each mind
A captive will dream about someone
The only way to be free is to love

Perfect

What does it mean to be the apple of my eye?
Must have been the feeling of an apple loving guy
Maybe you should be the beating of my heart!
It skips a beat or two whenever we're apart
Whatever name we give it, that missing part of me
Is the perfect place you are meant to be.

Patchwork

We are made of a patchwork of passions and pride
Exchanging our dreams then keep them inside
Words dance with our feelings whenever we meet
Captured in hearts where they follow the beat
If love could be seen as it danced through the air
It would find the right heart, the person who cared
Take a bow and a wave before making its home
Then rest in that heart so its never alone

Surreality

Lets take a stroll through a surreal world
It has it's contradictions like the namesake art.
The feel of stigma without satisfaction
Not reaching far enough yet going too far
Having it all, but not quite
Being a person of action who can't act
There are a lot of  can'ts, yets and buts here.
And people apologize for missing each other.
Weird..

Home

The world is whirring in my head
I can only think of my own bed
The familiar lights on my front porch
Welcomes like a kingly court

A suitcase clunks and hits the floor
The familiar creaking from our door
My wanderlust is almost bust
But sleep is sweet after all the fuss

The Call

When two share a deep passion
A call comes from their souls
Pointing to a destination
Anxious if no one goes

They learn to stand and bear
Resist, hold at bay
And let loyalty, love and care
Win, as they should, the day

They will turn it to enjoyment
Even with the fervent call
With love, full and abundant
And no one taking falls.

There is no fear of loss
This resounds within their souls
It perceives no thing by cost
But delights in what it knows

Glowing

I love to see you glowing
Like a gentle breeze blowing
I hope the good keeps flowing
It settles my heart

The way I gage success
Is through your happiness
When things don't seem the best
Your smile saves me

If I could wrap up joy
And be a delivery boy
I'd be faithfully employed
Making you smile

The way I gage success
Is through your happiness
When things don't seem the best
Your smile saves me

Captured

"Hello," she said and then they smiled
An image in their heads a while
But something deep inside was riled

Love captured them to their surprise
So they tried to analyze
By gazing in each other's eyes

Reason shook its fist
There's no way that love exists
They must need an exorcist!

So for a while it became confined
To snippets, quotes and rhymes
But it never left their minds.

The Ultimate

The heart champions feelings
But the mind seeks what is noble
And what is life without nobility?
It brings a tranquil peace of mind.
Yet why would we waste passion?
This fire burning deep within
Our minds can't comprehend love
And neither can our hearts
Love is the ultimate passion
Yet is the ultimate act of nobility.

The Narrator

In this quest to shake the mundane
Experiences without you aren't the same
Tour the Taj Mahal and my heart would say meh
Ride raging rapids and I'd only feel wet
So I'll keep up the search for what's greater
Though it all becomes great when you're the narrator

Complete

Some are content
With unfinished dreams
Unpaid bills
Going with the stream

Then cross a fence
And start it again
With their unfinished business
Leaving unfinished friends

But a life that's complete
Till the end is my creed
With love fully expressed
Every breath That I breath

No unfinished business
Will I leave behind
Call me obsessed
I don't mind.

Resonance

A body is confined
The soul brings delight
Matter may change
But our essence is light
Thoughts will travel
Faster than sight

Deep felt feelings
Long for words
Private thoughts
Want to be heard
To reach a heart
With passions stirred

In a heart that's stirred
Resonance rings
It can satisfy
Most everything
Meaning is found
Through inspiring

How Deep

My daddy taught me how to talk
And how to walk
But he could never show me
How to be myself

My teacher taught me how to spell
And do math well
But she could never show me
How to know what's right

Rules will make me tow the line
I'm doing fine
But they can never make me
Be a better man

While using words to express
I give it all my best
But they don't go near as deep
As the passions I feel

Mister Moon

Hey mister moon, I see your plight
Watching stars, alone at night
Reflecting sun on those who gaze
Through the misty nighttime haze

You want to hear the words they speak
Another lonely heart you seek
Gladly now you take your place
And give a glow to nighttime space

You and I do contemplate
Of life and love and my soul's state
And when my life runs out of days
Your light will visit where I lay

Enduring and Free

Love that is shared is profound
Many long to have it
It's a struggle to stay on the ground
To hold such a valuable gem

Some might call it a curse
But that person will never be me
To demean it would be worse
It cannot be defined

We commit to never say goodby
Honor the vow to do no harm
All that's done or laid aside
Is to honor these words

This where it will always be
There are no delusions
Our love is enduring and free
Through hardship and joy

The Door

There's a door in a chamber of my soul
That is filled with great delight
Each time the door is opened
It lets my heart take flight

Once aloft, it is hard to catch
It stays on all the heights
When I try to reign it back
It turns into a fight

Soon I am walking into things
Engulfed in time alight
They say to clip its wings
But it's such a wondrous sight

don't literally have the heart to
It's such a pleasant plight
When the day is ending
I give my heart a warm goodnight.

Plight

These Four Walls

These four walls know my secrets
Heard them all and won't reveal
The sun outside is calling to me
I've felt the heat, it must be real

These four walls are only silent
I hear a voice out in the street
This dry mouth can taste the freedom
But these walls give no release

These four walls have a beauty
Through the bars, the sun shines in
Night and day I chip the stone
With all my strength, to change the end

These four walls can be a comfort
But I won't lean to cool my back
I see a face and hear a heartbeat
My restless soul will give no slack

Soul Garden

What are words?
This garden that grows from a soul
Hear them; raw emotion
Brings excitement and spontaneous joy
Read them; thought in print
One can repeat the feelings over again
Quotations; agreement
To know a loved one thinks the same.
Heart expressed; honesty
Remembering conversations with a smile
Actions captured; timeless
Reminiscing with those who care
Encouragement; a heart uplifted
A word in season can change direction
Our words embody life and love.

Conversation

No doubt life is good
We've got all that we could ask
But something haunts our hearts
And time won't make it pass
Sometimes things get crazy
But feelings still are there
Who wants a passing shadow?
Why should we even care?
What is love you ask?
Who needs a dissertation?
Once duty is laid aside
It's a lifelong conversation

Claims

Passion is like a roller coaster
Arms up! A ride that's exhilarating
Honor is like a bus trip
Let's go! We have a destination

Both claim to be love

We love to have someone to scream with
And someone to ride the bus with

Honor will say, "We've goals to make."
Passion will say, "We've a world to shake!"
Both demand forward motion.
And stir up anxiety when absent

Which is more important?
It depends on which one you ask

The Grantor

Shrubbery, lawns and windows
parade as we pass by
We need a place to plant our dreams
Among gypsum, wood and sky

We'll get a house our friends can find
And delivery from those who dare
Cross our welcome mat
With pizza, love and care

Then make our own noise
And play with toys
Sooth trips and falls
Repaint plaster walls
Watch out for the dog!
Memories on a blog

A hopeful home with a sign
And the Grantor of our wishes
Is smiling in the foyer
Of the place we'll keep our dishes

A Million Times

Sometimes, you worry I might forget
At times, life leaves us all perplexed
Each day, thoughts of you do interject
I say your name a million times,
                                under my breath

It won't stop, I can feel your energy
Life stills, and I find you next to me
A bright light, when dark gets the best of me
I say your name a million times,
                                 under my breath

Meanings

We fret over words, our minds second guess
Words from the heart are random at best
Let's not waste any time analyzing things
Don't worry about words, I know what you mean

Things spoken in fear can't be too precise
Don't worry a bit about playing nice
Express all you feel whatever life brings
Don't worry about words, I know what you mean

Your feelings inside always tell me the truth
Your emotions won't lie, you don't need an excuse
I'll do anything to keep your soul free
Don't worry about words, I know what you mean

Storm and Calm

Despite the swirling winds of time
All the the lows and all the highs
Grasping for a peace out there
If the mind's too tired to care
Through all the settled dust
When concerns refrain from fuss
The blurry lens in focus now
Your face appears removing doubts

With my eyes raise to the heights
The aura of the northern lights
Swim below a lake that's clear
With courage now amid the fears
A storm rolls in, we're filled with awe
A voice within a shelter calls
It feels the same as flashes blind
When thoughts of you pass through my mind

What we Think

Sometimes we think love
Is like a dinner plate
You can walk away from
Or a deal you missed
Like passing a yard sale
But it doesn't follow
Commerce rules
It's not like a faucet
You can turn off
A switch to flick
To turn on the lights
A pedal to push
To speed up
Or slow down
It does what is right
For its beloved
Is not a user
Love cares deeply
Will not impose itself
Is patient and kind
Will step out of the way
For a person's happiness
At its own hearts expense
Love also doesn't change
Will sacrifice for loved ones
Would rather be destitute
Than hurt its beloved
No it isn't a task
An accomplishment
If it has to be won
Then it's a card game
But it can't be love
Maybe I am a purist
To my own detriment
There isn't a map
But this is all I know

Books

As a small child I was introduced
To an endless  world found in pages
A crisp new book crackle
The smell of ink
A cover to smack the table
Or your neighbor
The paper smelled of old and some new
But then I was introduced to heaven
The library with its majestic rows
A reverence fills the air
Mixing with the smell of books
Rows and rows of bindings show
Each book contains a world so fair
Adventure, politics, mystery, romance
Geography, self help
And oh yes, Dr Seuss
Each one has a nestled home
Hiding in place except for those
Skilled with the use of small oak drawers
We encoders know
The secret to the cards
And we all with due respect
Quietly find the book we like
Meeting eye to eye to book
With people of like interest
But of course we just smile
This ocean of words
Has tributaries into homes
You can check them out
If you perhaps have acquired
A passport called a library card
These oracles are sacred
So there are penalties
To those who linger with them too long
One can make a library
With little shelves of their own
And enjoy the new page smell
Crunched in a cover
But keep them forever
They become a part of you
The pages fan to find your part
A small breeze to get you there
Bindings worn from squeezing thumbs
They have a part of your life to tell
By the pool or close by in bed
Well liked books have covers worn
And pages torn
But they still beat an electronic glow.

Awakened

I should get out from under the covers
The sun is shining
Dreams unfinished, my eyes flutter

The moon snuck in and whispered
To closed eyes
And he doesn't like to be disturbed

The sun bursts in with a million things
Crescendoed by
The birds accompanying as they sing

Maybe what I am dreaming can happen
I smile
Sometimes being awake is such a distraction.

And yet ideas are carried on the sun's rays
New sights
Morning by morning is how the future is made

A Promise

He bought her flowers
She'd made a promise
He loves the way she always keeps her word

He wouldn't change her
That's why she loves him
He put the flowers on his table and thought of her.

Their love is still haunting the rooms of their souls
Looking for ways to occupy it's time
Remembering and wishing for a whisper
Knowing they're still intertwined.

He won't forget her
He made a promise
She loves the way he always keeps his word

A note to readers

I'm spending a little more time perfecting poems despite my busy schedule. They are like children produced from feelings. (almost three hundred) Often they need correction and perfection. Sometimes I just visit them. I have people requesting a book. About half are in a book formatted to publish but it all takes time. I am up to the challenge and am working on choosing what ones to put in a final draft. Input helps. Some of these are songs and I have purchased equipment to record. I want to get the gist captured myself before getting help. Anyone who has done this in the past knows how the inspiration can unintentionally be lost or diluted by others. Technology allows us grace and means to experiment with what is our heart. Hope your day is going well and don't worry, absence of new stuff means I am working with the kids in other ways. :) The best is yet to come!

The Boy

He saw her picture the other day
He miss that smile
So many words left to say
It shook him to his soul
Go back and shake that boy!
And remove the fear
You won't lose her, don't be coy
Get into the car

Life turns out well anyways
Except the missing part
Thoughts want too much pay
The heart gives no price
Searching for a solution
Focus home
Minimize the confusion
Help the boy

But he's a man

The Lowlands and the Heights

There's an animal within us
Who has its wants and desires
It wants to raise a happy family
Important things to acquire

We must stand behind the plow
And push it through the mire
Security is the dream
Time is sold as to a buyer

Toil away in the bottomland
Hoping for a little rest
Run away for a while
Return when you're unstressed

There's a delight above it all
Higher heights that can be reached
Inspiration makes its home there
Things that man can never teach

Hold on tight to those who help you
Reach a place your heart can soar
Release the muse dwelling in you
Help your spirit to explore

We dare not fear the soaring heights
A flower yearns to reach the sun
Wanting to display its beauty
With roots in earth where life begun.

Open Sea

When we are young we're launched in a ship
Brains full of facts; we can't wait to slip
But once we are out in the vast open sea
Nothing makes sense though we're told to be free
If we happen upon another lost boat
We ask for direction looking for hope
When I ran into you it caused a small leak
But I was so glad we got to meet

Won't you come with me to see how this works
We can learn from each other and share all the perks
With you in my sight and the whispers I hear
This ocean we're on doesn't strike any fear

We'll laugh at the storms, they're giving  us strength
There isn't a wind that can make our ship sink
Our feelings lie deeper than the water can go
And the heights that we reach the stars cannot know
The struggle gives way to a moon lit night
Our moods and reflections reach further than sight
Gulls sweep through the air skimming the waves
Freedom is clear when your eyes meet my gaze

Won't you come with me to see how this works
We can learn from each other and share all the perks
With you in my sight and the whispers I hear
This ocean we're on doesn't strike any fear

Sense

The realization didn't come from sight
I can't really point to a certain delight
But we came from the same mould
The passing of time can't make it old

We make perfect sense.

Painting with Our Thoughts

When the rain stops falling, the earth will be refreshed
Cloudy days make beautiful sunsets
When snow stops blowing, it sparkles in the sun
The things we dream have only just begun.

It takes a little sweat to make a flower bloom
The toughest things give the deepest joy
To make a work of art, you can't be in a rush
We're painting with our thoughts and not a brush.

When life gets hard, a heart will find a way
A mind can rest at ease with just a light
No need to be afraid,  We can always build
Though efforts seem to fail, love never will.

Meliae

While enjoying a walk in the woods
With a heart full of admiration
A quick movement caught my eye
Some kind of aberration

A voice then, echoed from the trees
That kindled a strong passion
More than I had known before
Deeper than I could fathom

I had to search and find the source
My soul was so inspired
I ran blindly through the trees
Til too much time transpired

She was sitting on a mossy limb
A nymph of gorgeous form
Among daughters born of men
The likes had not been born

I found she was a Meliae
Giving awe when men breath in
The beauty of earth's forests
They travel on the wind

As we spent some time together
A feeling filled our hearts
We'd fallen deep in love
And couldn't bear to be apart

With every passing morning
We mused the time away
But the gods forbade our love
So we both began to pray

In the forest dark foreboding
My little nymph was gone
I lost all inspiration
My heart did not belong

Wandering through the darkness now
It'd never be the same
The woods turned cold and empty
Since we could not speak again

Stopping at the water's edge
Where the sounds of waves inspire
A naiad said she had seen her
She had the same desires.

That night I sought Asteria
The inspiration of the stars
She vowed to share our feelings
To each other from afar
